Minutes from the latest meeting between Cambridge United and the Shadow Board, held on Saturday 6 September 2025...
CUFC: Alex Tunbridge
Shadow Board: Nigel Browne (Chair), Anouska Wright (Vice Chair), Andrew Stephen, Chris Neild, Jim Hardingham, Nigel Pearce, Paul Mayes, Philip Saich
Football Governance Bill: The football club had a pre-season meeting with the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) along with other EFL clubs and more meetings are planned. Martyn Henderson the COO of the IFR is meeting with the Shadow Board and fans groups on 8th September. Clubs will need to conform to the bill within 18 months to be given a licence by the IFR. This is still very much in the setting up stage. The club do not see any problems with obtaining a licence. The Shadow Board recognise the club are exceptional on fan engagement. Various events have been and are being organised involving all sections of the local community.
CUFC Fan's Groups Restructuring: CUSP has now joined CFU. It is not clear how this will affect non CFU members with complaints or comments on day-to-day matters, but discussions are ongoing. The Shadow Board will remain at the head of the groups.
Ground Redevelopment: Buying the ground back and updating the training ground has been a priority in recent years. The changes to the first team management in early 2025 took up time and resource from the stadium redevelopment project. There are several organisations involved in getting the planning application sorted and the club is in the process of identifying them. The club wants to make sure everything is in place, and all groups are happy with the plans before they submit the application and make available publicly. The club are currently exploring sequencing of the build, which will in-turn link to funding.
Shadow Board Media Coverage: The Shadow Board feels the club can do more to help with the media coverage of meetings and Shadow Board views. It was agreed the Shadow Board would look into setting up an independent Landing Page on the internet. The club will set up links through their social media accounts to the relevant page on the club website after each meeting, the SLO will do the same.
Allocated Seating in Main Stand: At a recent cup match there was confusion as to whether it was allocated seating or not. This should not arise again with a new stewarding company now in place.
