Cambridge United are pleased to announce the loan signing of Sean Raggett…
The 31-year-old defender joins the U’s from Rotherham United on a deal until the end of the season.
Raggett began his career at Dover Athletic before earning a move to Lincoln City, where he played a key role in the Imps’ promotion from the National League. During his time at Sincil Bank, he also made national headlines by scoring the winning goal against Burnley in the FA Cup Fifth Round.
A move to Norwich City followed, with Raggett spending much of his time out on loan, before signing for Portsmouth in 2020. He quickly became a fan favourite at Fratton Park, establishing himself as a defensive mainstay, winning Player of the Season in 2021/22 and helping Pompey secure promotion to the Championship in 2023/24.
After making 227 appearances for Portsmouth, Raggett joined Rotherham United on a permanent deal in May 2024 and now arrives at the Cledara Abbey on deadline day for the remainder of the campaign.
Raggett said, “As soon as I heard about the interest, I wanted to come down here and I am delighted to get it over the line. I spoke with the manager and got that feeling that this would be a great place for me to play my football.
“The boys have been doing fantastic recently so I will come in to try and help as I can. I feel great and in really good shape. I’ll be ready to be called upon when needed.”
“I am delighted with the acquisition of Sean Raggett to boost the defensive ranks,” Neil Harris added. “He brings huge experience, not only at this level but of competing at this stage of the season to be successful.
“He will add aggression, composure and ability into our defensive unit, and I look forward to seeing his qualities within the group.”
Raggett will wear the number 28 shirt whilst with the U’s.
