Kell Watts

Cambridge United are pleased to announce that Kell Watts has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until June 2027...

The 26-year-old defender joined the U’s from Newcastle United in 2024 and quickly established himself as a key figure at the club, making 33 appearances in his first season before becoming an ever-present in the team this campaign, with 30 appearances to date.

He has now committed his future to the U’s by putting pen to paper on a new deal.

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign a new deal,” Watts said. “The club showed they wanted me to stay, and I felt it was the right decision for my football career.

“There are great people here and an environment that pushes me to improve every day, with the staff driving standards and making sure you have to earn your place every week. I am excited about what lies ahead and trying to help the team achieve success.”

Head Coach Neil Harris added, “I am absolutely delighted that Kell has extended his contract to stay with our football club.

“His development over the last nine months has been immense - he's matured into not just an excellent centre-half that has helped us improve as a group, but also as a human being and a leader as well.

“We are excited about Kell's future. He's got potential to get better and better and travel up the leagues with us as a football club.”
