Cambridge United’s Academy scholars have achieved outstanding academic success, with the Club ranking top across the English Football League for BTEC grades following a detailed review by League Football Education (LFE)...

The achievement highlights the strength of the Club’s education programme and the continued commitment to supporting scholars in their development both on and off the pitch. It also reflects the close partnership between Cambridge United and Cambridge Regional College (CRC), who work together to deliver the Club’s academic provision.

In addition to finishing top of the table for BTEC grades across the EFL, the Club also finished top of the LFE’s ‘Value Added’ metric.

At the start of the BTEC programme, apprentices are set individual target grades based on their previous academic performance and prior attainment.

Through high-quality teaching, consistent academic support and strong collaboration between the Club and its delivery partners, Cambridge United’s scholars have made exceptional progress beyond these expectations.

This success is also a testament to the dedication, commitment and resilience shown by the apprentices themselves, who have fully engaged with the programme and taken ownership of their development.

As a result, scholars have, on average, achieved well above their initial target grades, with several notable individual success stories. Some apprentices who were predicted pass grades went on to achieve distinction profiles, creating a wide range of progression opportunities alongside their football careers.

Recent investment in new classrooms at the Club has also helped create a positive and focused learning environment for scholars to study alongside their football commitments, supporting the continued success of the programme.

Cambridge United remains committed to developing well-rounded young people, ensuring scholars are equipped with the skills, qualifications and opportunities needed to succeed both in football and beyond.
