The U’s are back on the road this Friday evening to take on Harrogate Town at the EnviroVent Stadium…
Cambridge United get the Sky Bet League Two weekend underway with a 7pm kick-off on Friday 30th April, knowing that a win in West Yorkshire would secure promotion to Sky Bet League One.
Harrogate may have one eye on Monday’s 2020 FA Trophy Final, in which they face Concord Rangers, with a mid-table finish already assured for the newly promoted side.
Despite defeat against Stevenage last time out, Mark Bonner’s men are in fine form overall with five wins from their last eight games. It’s on the road though where the U’s recent record is really impressive – six wins and just one defeat from their last eight away games with a positive goal difference of +9. No team in the division can boast a better away record this season.
Harrogate are currently on their worst run of form of the season, with just one win and six defeats from their past 10 games. Things are improved on home ground though, with the Sulphurites having won three from their past eight at the EnviroVent Stadium.
There has only been one game between the U’s and Harrogate, coming earlier this season in January at the Abbey Stadium.
After falling behind in the 10th minute, United came roaring back in the second half despite treacherous conditions, as Joe Ironside and Wes Hoolahan scored in the final 20 minutes to move the U’s back into the automatic promotion places.
Speaking ahead of the game, U’s Head Coach Mark Bonner said, “We are really looking forward to the game. The fact that it’s tomorrow is good because it comes around faster which you always want when you have big games. We have had a good couple of days on the grass and we are just getting the players fresh so we can come into the game with the energy and intensity that make us a good side.”
Harrogate Manager Simon Weaver said, “It should be a tough encounter, Cambridge are on the verge of promotion, a really good team, a strong outfit and can play different systems. All along they’ve had the right recipe and have a good mixture of physicality but also got some really talented players in there as well.”
Ollie Yates is in-charge of Friday’s game, with Richard Wigglesworth and Simon Clayton appointed as his Assistants. Yates has taken charge of two Cambridge United games this season – the 4-2 win at Burton in the Football League Trophy and the 4-1 defeat at Salford in February.
