Cambridge United can confirm that Mamadou Jobe has joined Stockport County for an undisclosed fee...
After joining the U’s from Royston Town as a 16-year-old, Jobe progressed through the scholarship programme to make 61 first-team appearances.
His development was aided by loan spells at St Neots Town, Concord Rangers, St Albans City, Maidstone United, and Gateshead, paving the way for his first-team breakthrough last season.
With less than a year remaining on his contract, he now departs for Stockport after an agreement was reached between the two clubs.
Director of Football Mark Bonner said, "We have today reached an agreement with Stockport County for Mamadou after the club met our valuation for the player. Given that Mamadou would be a free agent in summer 2027 and he has confirmed at a number of points over recent months that he would not extend his contract, we have deemed it in the best interests of the club and the player to accept their offer.
“Over the course of the summer, we have rejected multiple bids for Mamadou and have been preparing for this potential eventuality throughout the course of the window, given Mamadou’s contract situation. We all recognise that these are always finely balanced judgements; however, we all believe this strong deal reflects excellent business for us in the circumstances and is in the long-term interests of the club.
“Having signed for the club as a scholar, Mams’ development within the academy, on loan, and into the team is a blueprint for our development model. He played over 50 games in non-league senior football before establishing himself in the first-team squad and has navigated many challenges, showing admirable resilience throughout.
“As we balance our short- and long-term objectives, we aspire to become a club that develops players and builds a reputation that provides opportunity, creates assets, and becomes a magnet for talented players who want to progress their careers alongside contributing to our on-field objectives, success, and sustainability.”
