The PSA test is a simple blood test that can help detect potential prostate problems, including prostate cancer. It isn’t a diagnosis in itself – PSA levels can be raised for many reasons, such as exercise or other health conditions – but it can indicate whether you should consult your GP for further checks.
Around two out of three men with a raised PSA level do not have prostate cancer, so the test is an important first step rather than a conclusion. You may also wish to check your level of risk before booking a test using the online risk checker, linked within the booking form.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, but the earlier it is found, the easier it is to treat.
