Cambridge United is delighted to announce that George Williams has signed for the Club on a free transfer from Bristol Rovers...

The 28-year-old right-back arrives at the Abbey Stadium with a wealth of League One experience, having made over 160 appearances in the division with the likes of Barnsley, MK Dons and most recently, Bristol Rovers.

Williams is best known for his time at Stadium MK, where he was a key member of the team for five seasons, including being named the Club’s Player of the Year in 2016/17.

“It is really exciting and it is great to be here,” Williams said. "As soon as I heard there was interest from Cambridge I wanted to get it done. I met the Manager last week and we had a really great chat - he told me about the way they like to play football and about the environment here – and I just really wanted to get started.”

U’s Head Coach Mark Bonner said, "I am delighted that George is joining us and I am really look forward to working with him. He will become a key player for us and a character whose professionalism, experience and personality will be a big benefit to the team.

"His League One experience speaks for itself, he can play in a variety of systems and he has strong defensive qualities. George comes to us with superb character references and he is ambitious to have an impact on the team. I really enjoyed our first meeting and think this is a really strong signing for us."

Williams will wear the number 2 shirt and signs on a two-year deal.
