U's Women get first win at Grange Road with second half comeback against Dulwich...
Cambridge United Women returned to league action at Grange Road on Sunday afternoon as Dulwich Hamlet made the trip to Cambridge for the U’s third game of the FA WNL Southeast Division One season.
Following the close defeats to London Bees and Norwich City, Ethan Scott’s side were looking to get back to winning ways and secure their first home league points of the season.
The U's made one change to the starting line-up due to the unfortunate injury of Ceri Flye against Norwich City as Abbie Jackson came into the side.
A dominant start to proceedings for the U's as Jade Bell, Mollie Coupar and Renai Bennett all saw their efforts either blocked or saved by the Dulwich defence.
Despite the teams’ efforts, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 39th minute, a well worked move down the left and a cross to the back post found Emmerson who slotted home calmly to make it 1-0.
After half time, the U’s came flying out and quickly turned the game on its head.
In the 56th minute, Abbie Jackson equalised, Jeffery's delivery found the onrushing Jackson who powered home to make it 1-1.
Just seven minutes later, Cambridge completed the turnaround.
A well constructed Cambridge move saw Mollie Coupar put through one-on-one with the keeper, the U's forward made no mistake, finding the bottom corner beyond the reach of Ginn in the Dulwich net.
The U’s continued to dominate as Dulwich pushed for a response, and were rewarded in the 84th minute.
Another superb Jeffery's delivery eluded both teams before bouncing around in the box, Norman took control of the ball, swivelled and finished low into the bottom right corner to put the U's two to the good.
However, Dulwich refused to give up, and responded just two minutes later to reduce the gap to 3-2 as Roberts put her name on the scoresheet.
Dulwich pushed for a late equaliser, but the U’s held firm through the final minutes to secure a hugely important three points.
After suffering back-to-back narrow defeats, Cambridge showed excellent character to come from behind and claim their first home league victory of the season.
The result sees the U’s bounce back in style at Grange Road, with three goals in the second half completing an impressive comeback against a determined Dulwich Hamlet side.
The U’s will now look to build on the victory as they make the trip to Stevenage in the FA WNL Cup Group Stage next Sunday.
