Cambridge United are looking to recruit an Assistant Groundsperson who is a member of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA)…
The successful applicant will support the delivery of professional-standard pitches for matches, training sessions and club events, while ensuring all surrounding areas are safe, clean and well maintained.
This role has been funded by the PFA and EFL's Off-Pitch Pathway Scheme (OPPS), an initiative helping former players and scholars move into meaningful long-term careers away from the pitch. Administered by League Football Education, the OPPS programme is funding nine 12-month placements across EFL clubs which offer PFA members workplace experience across a range of professional departments within football clubs.
Key Requirements:
- Mowing, line marking, divoting, aeration, brushing, scarifying, and irrigation activities
- Support in pitch renovation works (reseeding, top dressing, overseeding etc.)
- Maintain surrounding grounds including pathways, spectator areas, car parks, and artificial surfaces
- Ensure all outdoor areas remain clean, safe, and free from hazards
- Operate groundskeeping equipment (mowers, tractors, line markers)
- Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and safety checks on all machinery
- Prepare pitches for fixtures and training, marking, set-up, and presentation
- Applying such chemicals as needed under the direction of the Grounds person
- Provide in-game support and post-match repairs and clean-up
- Support seasonal, high-demand periods such as pitch renovations and congested fixture schedules
- Ensuring that all Health & Safety requirements are met at all times
- Any other duties as required
