Cambridge United’s Under 18s progressed to the next round of the FA Youth Cup with a confident 4–0 victory over Slough Town at the Cledara Abbey Stadium on Tuesday evening...
After a competitive first half with little to separate the two sides, the young U’s grew stronger as the game went on, scoring four unanswered goals after the break to the delight of the home supporters.
The breakthrough came shortly after the interval as Cambridge began to dominate proceedings, creating a series of chances and maintaining sustained pressure on the Slough backline. Skipper Dempsy Crace opened the scoring, converting from close range following a well-delivered corner.
Just two minutes later, the advantage was doubled - Efobi powering home a header from close range into the roof of the net.
United continued to push throughout the second half and were rewarded again when Freddie Jolland was brought down inside the box. Efobi calmly stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, making sure of the win with his second goal of the evening.
The U’s managed the closing stages with maturity, maintaining their clean sheet, before Ebanks-Blake’s fierce strike in the final moments put the icing on the cake.
It was a professional all-round display from Cambridge, who now look forward to the next stage of their FA Youth Cup campaign.
