Cambridge United Women are on the road this Sunday, travelling to Nottingham to face the University of Nottingham Women in the first-round proper of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
The U’s kick off at 2 pm this Sunday, 26th October, at the David Ross Sports Village, located on the University of Nottingham campus.
It’s been a mixed campaign so far for the U’s. They began their season with a five-game winning streak, but since their narrow 1-0 defeat to Norwich, they have only managed one win.
Sean Greygoose’s side will be eager to bounce back from last week’s FAWNL Plate defeat to London Bees with a positive result this weekend. Victory would keep their FA Cup campaign alive, but another loss would see Cambridge crash out of two competitions in as many weeks.
The Opposition
Sunday’s hosts have made history by reaching the FA Cup first round for the first time in their history. They are also the only university side left standing in either the men’s or women’s competition.
The team compete in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League, where they currently sit 7th, having played just one league fixture so far.
Their run to the FA cup first round proper has been dominant with victories over Boston Town, Belper Town and Brunsmeer Athletic, winning 9-1, 10-0 and 4-3 respectively. The young and lively side will be looking to carry their impressive goal-scoring form into Sunday’s clash with the U’s.
Managers Thoughts
“It’s a really good time for us to put the last game or two behind us. They’re going to be a really good side, but we want to go there and get a result and get into the next round. Their a young, athletic side with some good technical players and have scored a lot of goals in the previous rounds, so we know it will be a tough place to go. If we can play anywhere near the levels we know we can get to, we should be ok and get the result we want,’ Sean Greygoose said.
How to get there
For fans making the trip from Cambridge to cheer on the team at the University of Nottingham, the journey is a straightforward one. Head west out of Cambridge along the A1303 and join the A428 towards Bedford and St Neots. Stay on the A428 until you reach the A1 near St Neots, then head north, following signs for Peterborough and Grantham. After about 25 miles, take the A52 westbound towards Nottingham and Grantham.
The A52 will guide you through Grantham and Bingham before bringing you right into Nottingham. As you approach the city, follow signs for the University and Queen’s Medical Centre, then turn left onto Derby Road (A6200) and follow directions into the University Park Campus. The David Ross Sports Village is right at the heart of campus.
We hope to see you there!
