Cambridge United Women host Chatham Town Women this Sunday in the FAWNL South East Division 1 after a midweek draw to MK Dons.
The U’s kick off at 2 pm this Sunday, 2nd November, on their home pitch at St Neots Town Football Club.
This fixture is Cambridge’s third in just seven days, with a win at the University of Nottingham in the FA cup last Sunday and a 2-2 draw with MK Dons on Wednesday. Sean Greygoose’s squad will be eager to stay unbeaten and claim a second victory of the week.
Cambridge are currently 6th in the table, just behind Chatham Town in 4th, who are only ahead on goal difference. A win for the U’s would see Cambridge overtake them in the league and tighten the race at the top of the table.
The Opposition
Chatham Town have had an impressive start to the season, recording four league wins and sitting in the top half of the table.
Their strong form extends to the FA Cup, where they knocked out AFC Wimbledon in the first round proper, winning 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw. The victory was particularly noteworthy, as Wimbledon sit a division higher than both Cambridge and Chatham.
Last season, this fixture proved a tightly contested rivalry with the visitors winning just 1-0 before the two teams drew in their second meeting. This season, the U’s will be hoping to assert themselves as the dominant side.
Managers Thoughts
“This is one of those games that, if we can get three points, it puts us in a really good position, in sort of 3rd or 4th. If we can go and win this game, it keeps us within touching distance of those at the top of the table. Chatham is a good side that has had a really good FA cup run. They’re very well organised and I think they’ll be a very athletic, hardworking side with a solid structure. It’ll be a tough test, but one that we’re looking forward to.” Sean Greygoose said.
How to get there
If you’re heading to St Neots Town FC from Cambridge, it’s an easy trip of around 22 miles. By car, take the A428 west from Cambridge towards St Neots, follow signs for the town, then turn onto Barford Road and left into Kester Way where you’ll find The Premier Plus Stadium on your right – there’s free parking at the ground, though it fills quickly on busy matchdays. If you’re travelling by train, take a service from Cambridge to St Neots (usually via Hitchin or Stevenage) and either walk the mile and a half to the ground or grab an Uber for the short five-minute ride.
We hope to see you there!
