Cambridge United are pleased to confirm the appointment of Liam O'Neil as First Team Coach...
O'Neil steps up from his role as Under 18s Head Coach, having spent the past two and a half years leading United's scholars and playing a key role in the development of the Club's young players.
His appointment marks the latest chapter in a long-standing association with Cambridge United. Having started out in the Academy, O'Neil returned to the U's in 2017 and went on to make more than 150 appearances for the Club.
Following his retirement from playing in 2023, O'Neil returned in a coaching capacity, taking charge of the Under 18s and helping to develop the next generation of Cambridge United players.
In his new role, O'Neil will join Neil Harris' first-team coaching staff ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Head Coach Neil Harris said, "Liam represented this football club as a player with huge passion, pride, determination and desire, and he's developed into a coach with exactly the same qualities.
"I've really enjoyed watching his development over the last couple of seasons and he's worked incredibly hard to earn this opportunity. He's going to bring excellent attributes and qualities to a coaching team that complement both myself and Adam in many ways.
"Just as importantly, Liam understands this football club. He understands the standards we expect, the connection with our supporters and what it means to represent Cambridge United. We're delighted to welcome him into the first-team environment."
Everyone at Cambridge United would like to congratulate Liam on his appointment and wish him every success in his new role.
