Cambridge United are pleased to announce that George Hoddle has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with the club…
The 20-year-old midfielder has progressed into the first team this season, making 12 appearances to date, including starts and completing the full game in five of the club’s last six matches. Hoddle has played 508 of the club’s last 570 minutes.
After joining the club from Bishop’s Stortford as a 14-year-old, Hoddle progressed through the Academy to earn his first professional contract in 2023.
Loan spells at St Neots Town, Royston Town, St Albans City and Bedford Town helped him gain valuable experience before making his breakthrough this year.
“I am delighted to sign a new contract,” said Hoddle. “It’s been a strong season for both myself and the team so far, and the past few weeks have been what I have been working towards.
“I know there is still a long way to go for me, and that I will have to continue working hard and performing in order to stay in the team.”
Head Coach Neil Harris added, “We are delighted that George has extended his stay with the football club. Since coming into the team, Hodds has handled himself with real composure and shown excellent qualities that have helped us be successful over a short period of time.
“We look forward to helping him develop over the coming months, and over the longer term as well. He has outstanding attributes that suit the way I see the team developing, and we believe he has so much growth in him as he continues to develop into a senior player at our football club.
“George’s new contract is a reward for the giant steps he has taken over the last couple of seasons around the first team. We also believe his attributes will enable him to continue improving, growing both as a character and as a footballer with us.”
Hoddle’s new deal will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.
