Cambridge United are pleased to announce that Chief Executive Officer Alex Tunbridge has been named Business Person of the Year at the 2026 Cambridge Independent Business Awards…
The annual awards – which was held in the Great Hall at King’s College - celebrates the achievements, innovation and leadership of businesses and individuals from across the Cambridge region, with Alex receiving the accolade in recognition of the progress made at Cambridge United in recent years.
During his time as CEO, the club has welcomed record attendances and commercial revenues to the Cledara Abbey Stadium, strengthened its ties across the city and wider business community, delivered key operational developments and laid strong foundations for the future.
Chair of the Board, Godric Smith said, "This is a proud moment for Cambridge United and deserved recognition for what Alex has done for the club since he joined us as our Chief Executive.
"Whilst he would always be the first to credit others, his drive, commitment and values as a leader have been key to the progress we have made, off pitch in particular.
"There is a lot of opportunity ahead for us with Cambridge set to grow as a city. We have a very clear strategy and are aligned from top to bottom as a club, and it is great to have Alex at the helm to lead this next chapter."
Alex Tunbridge added, "It was an honour to receive this award and, in particular, to hear last night that a number of our fans had spontaneously given their support to my nomination over recent weeks.
"I have the good fortune to work with so many talented people right across the club and this is recognition for all their fantastic work over many months.
"This is a generational moment for Cambridge and we are ambitious to do as much as we can on and off the pitch to meet the moment, United for Cambridge.
"A lot of hard work lies ahead but I am genuinely excited about what the future can hold for us at Cambridge United, working together in partnership with others."
