Cambridge United Women promote exciting young prospects to first team squad

CUFCW Promote Prospects

Ahead of the Women’s County Cup fixture against Cambridge Rangers on Sunday, Sean Greygoose has bolstered his side with the promotion of several promising young players...

Emilia Reinhardt, Millie Docking, Tilly Morrish, Annabelle Ferguson and Ailsa Heal join a squad that also includes recent returnees Isabel Beeson and Eleanor Townsend.

General Manager for Cambridge United Women, Charlotte Crisp, said, "I am incredibly proud to see players progressing through our female pathway and earning their place within our Women's first-team squad. The pathway exists to support, challenge, and develop players while providing clear opportunities for progression and long-term success at the club. Seeing players continue their journey with us at senior level is a real testament to their hard work and to the strength of the environment we are building across all female programmes.”

The current squad also consists of previous graduates from the female pathway; Mollie Coupar who progressed from the pathway into the first team before spending time at MK Dons and returning to the U’s last season, and Vicky Neal, a recent returnee who spent three seasons playing for Watford in the WSL before spending time at MK Dons and Stevenage.

First Team Coach, Sean Greygoose, added, “I think it’s brilliant to see so many youngsters making their way through the pathway and into the first team or returning to the club after spending some time playing for other clubs.

"I think it’s really important to have people that have a connection to the club in some way. Over the last 5 years we have seen our female programme grow from strength to strength, not only in numbers but the number of players that we are starting to produce.

"I’m really pleased to see the hard work for these girls pay off, being involved in the club and Women’s first team. Some of the players have had different routes into the first team, but the majority have been in one of our centres from a young age and progressed all the way through to the first team, which is a credit to the pathway.

"Obviously, the players have worked hard to get to this point, but I think credit must go to the likes of Charlotte Crisp who oversees the programme, but also the coaches that spend time supporting the players from U8s to U18s, through the key stages of player development.

"This is an exciting time to be a part of Cambridge United Women, and we look forward to seeing the squad progress with the blend of younger players from our pathway and experienced players to help support them in the next part of their journey.”

Cambridge United Women will be in action Sunday 18 January as they take on Cambridge Rangers in the Cambridgeshire FA County Cup; the squad will boast several exciting prospects and new faces.

The U’s return to league action the following weekend against AFC Sudbury on Sunday 25 January before facing Chatham Town on 1 February. Both games are at St Neots Town FC. Tickets are available online for our next five home games.
