14 United legends inducted into Hall of Fame

26 November 2021

Thursday night’s successful Cambridge United Hall of Fame dinner, held in front of a packed-out Signature Suite at the Abbey Stadium, saw 14 legends inducted into the Hall of Fame…

A mix of United greats and U's fans filled out the Abbey Stadium’s Signature Suite to witness legends recognised for their outstanding contributions to the development, success and history of Cambridge United Football Club.

The 14 new inductees sees the Hall of Fame grow to 33, with the following names being added last night.

The first to be named was Brendon Batson, who played an influential role in the Ron Atkinson team that won the Fourth Division in 1977 and rampaged on to promotion the following year. He was followed by life-long United fans Carol Looker and Colin Proctor, who have both given so much of their lives to the amber and black cause.

Dave Matthew-Jones was inducted as a founder member of the CFU Trust Board in 2000. Following that, he has earned the respect of supporters by representing them on the Club’s board, whilst acting as United’s Supporter Liaison Officer and rallying the band of volunteer-supporters who toil daily around the Abbey.

Legendary manager Ron Atkinson who guided United to the Fourth Division title in 1977, as well as laying the foundations for promotion to the second tier the following year joined Cambridge-born legend Josh Coulson in being inducted, after making more than 300 appearances for the club he had watched from the terraces.

Other U’s greats Lindsay Smith, Lionel Perez, Malcolm Webster, Roly Horrey, Andy Duncan, Dave Kitson, Derrick Christie and Harvey Cornwell also joined the Hall of Fame, with U’s Head Coach Mark Bonner and former striker John Taylor, among many other to present the awards.

A massive thank you goes to 100 Years of Coconuts as well as Cambridge Fans United (CFU) for organising and hosting the event.
