LOAN | SPURS TRACEY JOINS UNITED FOR REST OF 2020/21

Cambridge United are pleased to confirm the Football Club have completed the loan signing of Spurs flyer Shilow Tracey until the end of the season.

Tracey, 22, brings explosive pace and additional width to Mark Bonner’s first team for the remaining months of the 20/21 campaign.

Beginning his career with Ebbsfleet United Tracey’s speed caught the eye of Tottenham, joining the North London Club’s academy in 2016. His development saw him rise through the age groups, going on to feature prominently for Spurs U23s and making his first team debut in a pre-season friendly against Girona ahead of the 2018/19 season.

Since then, the winger has gained his first minutes in the Football League in League Two whilst on loan with Macclesfield Town last season, making ten appearances and scoring his first senior goal against Plymouth Argyle. Tracey has spent the first half of the current season in League One, making 12 appearances for Shrewsbury Town since October, which included four goals in the Salop’s Papa John’s Trophy campaign.

Pleased to have now joined United’s efforts for the rest of the season, Tracey commented: “I’m very happy to get this deal done and I cannot wait to start.

“I could see the Club are doing well at the top of the League and I was keen to be a part of that. Jubril has been telling me how good Cambridge United is, and Jack Roles performed very well here too and said it would be a good place for me as well.

“I found playing for Macclesfield at this level a year ago a very good experience. I feel have good speed and strength, I’m a ball carrier that likes to take on players, cross the ball, assist and nick in with goals too. I want to contribute towards this team in that way.

“Adding goals and assists to the team is my goal during my time here, and I really want to help Cambridge United do well.”

Meanwhile, Head Coach Mark Bonner added: “We are really pleased to add Shilow to our squad and look forward to seeing him contribute to the team in the weeks ahead. He is comfortable in wide areas both sides and as a striker and has excellent pace.

“Shilow has played in this league last year on loan and for Shrewsbury in League One this season so is fit and ready to go once his registration is complete.”

Tracey will wear the number 18 shirt for the U’s.
