DIMITAR MITOV SIGNS THREE YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH THE U’S

16 May 2018

Cambridge United are delighted to announce goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov has committed his future at the Abbey Stadium, penning an extended contract that keeps him at the Club until 2021.

The U's have recognised the 21-year old's continued development during his opening season at the Club with a new three year deal.

The Bulgarian international youth keeper arrived at the Abbey Stadium in June 2017, having impressed within the academy ranks of Charlton Athletic, where he featured for the Addicks' U18s, U21s and U23s squads.

He played four times for United in the Checkatrade Trade and Carabao Cup during the first half of the 2017/18 campaign, before making three appearances to close the season in goal for the U's.

These fixtures included his Football League debut against Morecambe at the Globe Arena last month, where he kept the first of his two clean sheets in Sky Bet League Two.

A delighted Mitov commented: "I am really pleased to sign the new contract with Cambridge United.

"When I first received the news from agent about the opportunity to extend my time here, I didn't hesitate in agreeing because I have really enjoyed my first year at the Abbey.

"I now feel ready to push on and compete even more for the number one spot, and look forward to getting back to work in pre-season."

Meanwhile, Cambridge United Head of Football Ben Strang added: "We’re delighted that Dimi has committed his future to the club as he is a young goalkeeper that we have really high hopes for. He has had an opportunity in the last three games of the season and showcased some of the talent we feel he possesses. His drive and commitment to continuously improve each day in training gives us optimism that he can become an exciting prospect.”
