New loan signing Shane O’Neill says he “jumped” at the opportunity to join Cambridge United.

The former Colorado Rapids youngster arrived at the Abbey Stadium late on Monday evening, on a loan deal until the end of the 2015/16 season. O’Neill has already enjoyed the chance to meet his new team mates this and settle back into a regular of training regime once again.

He said: “The club have been extremely welcoming which is nice and there’s a good change of pace.

“I’ve only had a few training sessions so far, but I’m looking forward to getting my rhythm and sharpness back. Hopefully then my quality will come out.

“I have come here with an open mind, looking to work back to fitness. If anything else happens then that is just a bonus.”

Shane continued: “I would like to think of myself as a passing central defender. I like to pass and play. I’m actually looking forward to adapting to a new style. I’ve seen a lot of different styles and methods to play in the last few months, which has been really interesting.

“Towards the end of the deadline I got a call and heard the opportunity had come up with Cambridge, which I jumped at it.

“It’s great to come into to set up where we are fighting for promotion and I’m very excited about the opportunity.”
