MATCH PREVIEW | HARTLEPOOL UNITED VS CAMBRIDGE UNITED
Cambridge United return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday afternoon away at Hartlepool United, in search of their third consecutive League win.
The U’s currently sit just three points off the play-off positions and are enjoying a hot streak of form having picked up 22 points from their last 11 games in the division.
Luke Berry’s exploits last weekend in the Emirates FA Cup, in which the midfielder bagged four goals against Coventry, booked the U’s a Third Round clash with Leeds United at the Cambs Glass Stadium.
Despite bowing out of the Checkatrade Trophy with a defeat to Bradford City midweek, United will head up north confident of securing three points that would move them closer to the top seven. Conor Newton could be in line for a return having taken up a place on the bench at Valley Parade on Wednesday evening following a hamstring problem.
Meanwhile, the hosts will be hoping to bounce back from consecutive defeats at the hands of Wycombe Wanderers and Port Vale.
A win for the Monkey Hangers by a two goal margin would move them ahead of the U’s in the League Two ladder, however Craig Hignett’s outfit have won just two of their last seven in League action. They have certainly not been short on fire power though with midfielder Nathan Thomas and striker Padraig Amond both amassing seven goals so far this season.
Both meetings last season ended with the sides sharing the spoils with a goalless draw in County Durham before a 1-1 result at the Cambs Glass Stadium in January. However, the U’s hold a commanding lead in the overall head-to-head records with 18 wins to Hartlepool’s seven.
Away tickets for the match will be available on the gate at Victoria Park.
