Cambridge United underlines commitment to do more for Cambridge in a generational moment for the city as over 200 people gather for United for Cambridge summer celebration…
On Tuesday evening, Cambridge United Football Club (CUFC) and Cambridge United Foundation (CUF) held the second ‘United for Cambridge’ summer event.
It was an opportunity to bring people together from every part of the city - business, Universities, politics, sport and the voluntary sector - to connect through the power of sport and hear about the club’s ambitions for the future. These are exciting times for the city, and Cambridge United wants to play its full part in helping shape its future.
Hosted at Jesus College, the event included a photography exhibition aimed at showcasing the impact the Foundation has had on participants in the community and celebrate the incredible season on the pitch for the club.
We were very pleased to enlist the expertise of Charlie Gray who is a leading professional portrait photographer and passionate CUFC supporter. He has helped the club with several projects in recent years including this season’s kit launch.
Godric Smith, Chair of the Foundation and Director at Cambridge United said, “United for Cambridge is all about bringing both sides of Cambridge United together - Club and Foundation - alongside people from every part of the city to hear about our work and discuss how Cambridge United can play as big a role as possible in the future of the city.
"This is a generational moment for Cambridge, and we are very heartened by the widespread recognition of our distinct role in helping shape the future as its professional football club with a deep and unique social reach. There was a great energy at the event, and we were very grateful to Jesus College for hosting us in their beautiful grounds and to Charlie Gray for his brilliant photography.”
Shaun Grady, Chairman of the Board at Cambridge United and Chair of AstraZeneca UK said, “The event reinforced the seamless way the Football Club and Foundation work together for the benefit of the city and community. It was inspiring to experience first-hand the goodwill for both from so many quarters. Our task now is to convert that support into something tangible to make progress together, trying not to leave anyone behind as Cambridge evolves and Cambridge United continue to progress up the Football League.”
Vicky Neal, Head of Cambridge United Foundation said: “It was a pleasure to bring together the many people and organisations who play such an important role in supporting the work of Cambridge United and Cambridge United Foundation at another of Cambridge's iconic venues.
"We know we have a unique ability to connect people and organisations right across the city, creating opportunities that benefit some of our most disadvantaged communities. Last year the club generated £27m of social impact through our different programmes and we are ambitious to do more in areas of real need We look forward to working with existing and new partners as we now we can achieve more when we are ‘United for Cambridge’.
The event followed the launch of ‘United for Cambridge’ in January at the newly renovated Cambridge Arts Theatre and marks the third in a series of annual events to be held under the ‘United for Cambridge’ partnership.
Since the launch event in January, we are pleased to have welcomed two new members to the partnership network, Bidwells and Scudamore’s Punting, both of whom will be taking part in bespoke activations with the Foundation to help increase our impact across the city.
