Sports Minister Stephanie Peacock visited the Cledara Abbey Stadium on Saturday alongside local MP Daniel Zeichner to mark Cambridge United Foundation’s matchday takeover...

The visit highlighted the wide-ranging impact of the Foundation’s work across the city, from education and health initiatives to community partnerships. Supporters in attendance were able to engage directly with Foundation activities throughout the day.

Stephanie Peacock MP said, “It was great to visit Cambridge United and see at first hand some of the fantastic work they carry out in the community. From its groundbreaking partnership with AstraZeneca - encouraging young people to engage actively with science - to its matchday collaboration with the Edge cafe helping people recovering from addiction, Cambridge United is a beacon for positive community action.

“Football clubs are such important civic institutions as they are able to connect with all parts of their community in unique ways to help tackle inequality and social challenges, and Cambridge United is a shining example of how to do this with imagination and impact.”

Daniel Zeichner MP for Cambridge added, “Across the city we are very proud of the Cambridge United Foundation and its work in the community. As our Government Sports Minister I know how passionate Stephanie is about using the power of sport for social good so I am very pleased that we were able to show her how Cambridge United is helping lead the way in promoting wellbeing and extending opportunity.”

Godric Smith, Chair of the Foundation, said, “We are very grateful to Stephanie for making the time to visit us on Saturday and meet staff, fans and players, and participate in a number of the Foundation’s activities. It was a great to host her at the Cledara Abbey on what was an excellent day for the Club on and off the pitch.”
