Sam Curtis signs on deadline day

Sam Curtis

Cambridge United are pleased to announce the loan signing of defender Sam Curtis…

The 20-year-old joins the club from Sheffield United, subject to EFL and FA approval.

After beginning his career in his native Ireland, Curtis became the youngest player in League of Ireland history when he made his senior debut for Shamrock Rovers at just 14 years of age.

Following a successful spell with St Patrick's Athletic, his performances attracted the interest of Sheffield United, who he signed for in 2024.

The full-back has since gained first-team experience during loan spells with Peterborough, St Johnstone, and most recently, Chesterfield last season. Curtis has also represented the Republic of Ireland from Under 15s through to the Under 21s.

He now arrives at the Cledara Abbey Stadium for the remainder of the campaign to bolster United’s defensive ranks.

Sam Curtis said, “I’m delighted to get the deal over the line. There were a few things that sparked my interest - It’s obviously an absolutely brilliant club and anybody I spoke to about it had excellent things to say. And then after speaking to the gaffer over the last few days, it was an easy decision.”

Sam will wear the number 29 shirt during his time with the U’s.
