Cambridge United are deeply saddened to announce the news of James Taylor's passing…
James was an ever-present Ticket Office and Club Shop volunteer for over 15 years, giving up his time to support the Men's, Women's and Youth Team fixtures at the Cledara Abbey Stadium. If an event was on, James would be the first to offer his help.
James also played a significant role with CFU over the years. He was a board member from 2010-2013, secretary from 2013-16 and treasurer from 2016-2020.
Our thoughts are with James' parents, Barbara and Stephen, along with the rest of his family, friends and loved ones.
'Jimbo' will be sorely missed by the Ticket Office and Club Shop team on matchdays. His humour, wit and passion for Cambridge United and his 'Field of Dreams' was special. He will also be missed on Window 2 by all supporters who would pop by to see him for a chat on matchdays.
James' funeral - which has an Amber and Black dress code - will be held on Thursday 31 July 2025, 11:30am at East Chapel, Cambridge Crematorium.
Please note that the Club Shop and Ticket Office will be closed on this date to allow staff to pay their respects. If you would like to contribute towards his book of memories and tributes, please email stuartw@cambridgeunited.com.
The Club will be holding a minute’s applause for James ahead of the opening game of the season against Cheltenham Town.
For supporters who may wish to speak to someone, the club’s chaplains, Stuart Wood (stuartw@cambridgeunited.com) and Ben Barton (benb@cambridgeunited.com), are available. You can reach them via email and they will be present at our upcoming home fixtures against Charlton Athletic and Cheltenham Town.
