Cambridge United are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Ben Hughes, subject to international clearance…
The 21-year-old Wales youth international arrives on a two-year-contract, having departed Swansea City earlier this year.
Hughes came through at his local team, Pontardawe Town Youth, before joining Chippenham Town. He soon caught the eye of Swansea City and made the switch as a 17-year-old, representing their U18 and U21 sides across the past few seasons.
Last January he joined Caernarfon Town on loan for the second half of the season and now signs with United ahead of the players return to pre-season next week.
Ben Hughes said, “Happy that it’s all finally done and can’t wait to get going. It’s a big moment in my career to be signed for a First Team and it’s the right step for me in my career.
“I just want to develop as much as I can, get that First Team exposure and help the group however I can.”
“I am delighted to welcome Ben Hughes to Cambridge United,” Neil Harris added. “He is an exciting goalkeeper who we feel has huge capacity to grow and improve.
“Martin Davies has worked with him in the past and knows his potential and we all look forward to helping him develop as a goalkeeper.”
Hughes will wear squad number 25.
