James Gibbons has been named the 2025/26 Cambridge United Player of the Season…
The award was presented ahead of Saturday’s final home league game, with Gibbons edging a closely fought fan vote after an outstanding campaign from the U’s number 26.
A natural leader and a cornerstone of the division’s meanest defences, Gibbons has also made his mark at the other end of the pitch, scoring six goals – five of them since January as United built momentum in their push for promotion.
20-year-old George Hoddle was named Young Player of the Year after a breakthrough season in the First Team. The former U’s scholar was thrust into the side in November and became a key figure throughout the winter months in his first campaign as a senior professional with the Club.
The CFU Goal of the Season award went to Sullay Kaikai for his superb free-kick away at Fleetwood – a standout moment in what has been a strong season for one of United’s main attacking threats.
In the local media awards, Kell Watts was named Player of the Year by both BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and Cambridge 105, while Mamadou Jobe picked up Cambridge 105’s Young Player of the Year prize.
Congratulations to all the players recognised on Saturday.
