Cambridge United are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our much-loved colleague, Andy Pickard, the club’s Safety Officer…
Andy exemplified everything we aspire to be as a football club and as a community. He was kind, collegial, hardworking, understated, but always assertive. The interests of the club always came first for Andy, and we have lost a hugely valued and much-loved member of staff.
He will be deeply missed by everyone at Cambridge United, especially by those who had the privilege of working closely alongside him.
Andy began his journey with the club in 1992 as a steward on the old South Terrace. Over the years, he took on a range of stewarding roles before becoming Club Safety Officer in 2020. Cambridge United meant a great deal to Andy, and he, in turn, meant a great deal to all of us.
Support is available to anyone affected by this sad news in the following forms:
- Club Chaplains – Stuart Wood and Ben Barton will be present at Saturday’s game and are available for one-to-one support. Please feel free to contact them directly.
- Cambridge United Foundation Bright Horizons Café - Support will also be available tomorrow afternoon at the Cledara Abbey Stadium between 2pm and 4pm as part of the Foundation’s Bright Horizons Café.
A minute’s applause will be held prior to the match against Crewe Alexandra, with Andy’s family in attendance. We will share details of any memorial arrangements or ways to express condolences as soon as they are available.
The thoughts of everyone at Cambridge United are with Andy’s family, friends, and colleagues as we mourn the loss of a truly special member of our club.
