Abbey United descendents to gather ahead of Saturday's game

Abbey United players

We are delighted to welcome back dozens of former players to Saturday’s game against Barrow, all invited for the club's latest Former Players Fixture...

As part of the celebrations, we are also proud to host several descendants of players from Abbey United, following this season’s 'Pioneers' series in the United matchday programme. The series uncovered the stories of those who represented Abbey United during the 1913–14 season, with the majority of those players now identified for the first time.

Ahead of kick-off, we will welcome the following descendants onto the pitch for a special introduction and photograph:

  • Dave Coulson, a descendant of Arthur Coulson
  • David, Len and Chris Turner, representing the family of Abbey United legend Tom Bilton
  • Steve and Emelia Butcher, descendants of Frank Butcher, who have travelled from Cork, Ireland to be at the match
  • Chris Pollendine and five members of his family, descendants of Danny Pollendine
  • Daniel Allgood and Scarlett Ambrose, representing the family of Abbey United’s Ernest Hancock

Our thanks go to Pat Morgan for his outstanding work on the 'Pioneers' series, and we extend a warm welcome to all former players joining us on Saturday.
