Foundation Matchday taking place this Saturday

9 January 2024

This Saturday’s home game against Fleetwood Town is the Club’s annual Foundation Matchday as we celebrate the work and achievements of our official charity…

Cambridge United Foundation engages with over 10,000 people a year, ranging from the ages of 3 to 90 years old. Their 2023/23 Impact Report is released today, which highlights the following headlines:

  • 77% of junior participants were physically active (achieving 60+ activity minutes per day), 30% higher than the Cambridgeshire average
  • Adult participants recorded up to 15% higher levels of happiness, life satisfaction and sense of worthwhile life after long-term engagement with Foundation programmes
  • Levels of resilience were 9% higher amongst adult participants who had been part of Foundation programme for seven months or more
  • 75% of adult participants felt a strong sense of belonging to their local neighbourhood, 22% above the national average

This Saturday, United’s first team players will wear shirts with the Foundation logo for the game, after BrewBoard kindly allowed their sponsorship to be foregone for the day. All shirts will be signed and auctioned off following the game, in aid of Cambridge United Foundation.

Proceeds from the afternoon’s 50/50 draw will also go to the Foundation and a special edition Matchday Programme will include a number of stories and features on their outstanding work.

Astrazeneca, the Foundation's community sponsor, will be in the Kids' Zone ahead of kick-off, helping youngsters learn more about science in a way that engages and keeps things fun!

The day coincides with the EFL’s Community Weekend, which aims to build on the success of the Week of Action by aiming to show the breadth and depth of Club community work on Matchdays throughout the league. As part of this, a Community Hero will be honoured out on the pitch with a special presentation.

At half-time, two mini showcase games of Girls Football will take place on the pitch following the BrewBoard Half-Time Zorb Battle and we look forward to welcoming over 800 participants from their various programmes into the South Stand to watch the game.
