Cambridge United are pleased to announce that the Mead Plant & Grab South Stand will become the Club’s designated home family stand from the 2024/25 season...
Over the past few seasons, the Club has placed significant focus on growing its home supporter base through improving the matchday experience and engaging with underrepresented groups within the community.
This has resulted in the average attendance at the Cledara Abbey Stadium increasing by over 57% since the Club were promoted to EFL League One three seasons ago, with occupancy in home areas of the stadium this season exceeding an average of 90%.
The Club recognises that to increase the supporter base further, it needs to create additional seating and improve the levels of matchday experience available to home supporters and therefore, it has taken the strategic decision to make the Mead South Stand the designated home family stand from the 2024/25 season. Family seating in Blocks A and G of the Main Stand will still be available.
The stand which will see improvements to catering, retail and engagement spaces this summer and will provide an improved match day experience for families, as well as new and existing supporters.
In addition, 15 wheelchair spaces and accompanying Personal Assistant seats will be available to home supporters, with Block H1 of the stand becoming a designated calm area for supporters, which will replace the current area located in Block A2 of the Main Stand.
As a result of this decision, away supporters will be allocated the Intelligent Membranes South Habbin Stand, with 100 covered seats to be installed in the summer to meet EFL regulations.
Speaking about the decision, CEO Alex Tunbridge said, "The rate at which our supporter base has expanded in recent seasons is very pleasing however, we know can grow it further and to do that we need to improve the facilities and experience we can offer to home supporters and families in particular.
"Over the next 3-5 years we intend to do that by redeveloping the Habbin and Newmarket Road stands however, for now we believe we can have an immediate impact by providing access to the South Stand for home supporters."
The Club is also pleased to announce the extension of the current NRE Fan Zone with the addition of a new catering outlet for next season. Additionally, the Club is in the final stages of obtaining planning permission for a new Club Shop and Ticket Office which will be located on the Thirfty site and will open in August. The facility which is intended to be three times the size of the existing unit will be in situ until the NRE is redeveloped.
Details regarding the Club’s 2024/25 Season Tickets and Matchday prices will be announced at 12pm today (Monday 29 April) and will include details relating to a special Mead South Family Stand Season Ticket offer.
