Cambridge United are delighted to announce the signing of former Kilmarnock left back Brandon Haunstrup...
The 25-year-old will now link up with Mark Bonner’s men in South Wales after penning a two-year deal with United.
Having progressed through the ranks at Portsmouth, Haunstrup went on to make 57 appearances for Pompey before making the switch across the border in 2020 to sign for Kilmarnock.
The left back had been playing a key role as Killie looked to seal an immediate return to the top division in Scotland last season before injury halted the full back’s season in February.
Whilst in Scotland, Haunstrup made 58 appearances over two seasons for Kilmarnock, scoring on one occasion.
“I’m delighted to be here” he said, “After the conversations I’ve had with the boss and the way he’s come across and told me he wants to play, I’m just really excited to get going!
“Being back playing in the EFL is something I’ve really wanted to do since leaving Portsmouth.
“In Cambridge I think I’ve come to a really good club to come back to English football, and I couldn’t be more excited.”
On the move, Mark Bonner said “Brandon joins us determined to contribute to the team and adds excellent competition in the defensive unit.
“He has experience playing in League One, as well as in Scotland with Kilmarnock.
“We like his composure in possession and he has good defensive understanding. He is at an age where he is keen to find a home and develop further and he has a character that will fit in quickly within our environment.
“As we continue to add to the squad throughout the transfer window, we will try to ensure a well-balanced, competitive squad, which is rich in the qualities we have shown over the past two years, and we believe Brandon helps us work towards achieving that aim.”
Haunstrup becomes the U’s third summer signing and will wear the number 3 shirt.
