Cambridge United is pleased to announce that Sam Sherring has joined the Club on loan from AFC Bournemouth...
Sherring has spent the first half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Accrington Stanley, where he has made 14 appearances, keeping four clean sheets.
A defender, Sherring is predominantly a centre-back but can play across any defensive position.
“I spoke to the manager and a few people at the club a few days ago and heard really good things about the place,” Sherring said. “There was a bit of interest there before but it didn’t quite happen, so I am delighted to be here now and l can’t wait for the rest of the season.
“You can tell it’s a really positive atmosphere – everyone seems really together as one and that’s what you need to reach your targets individually and collectively.”
Mark Bonner said, “We are pleased to welcome Sam as the first addition to our squad this transfer window in a position where we currently find ourselves short. Sam is a player we watched closely in the summer as he was playing a number of games in and around AFC Bournemouth’s first team. He possesses many qualities that we like and his versatility across the defensive line is a positive for him and our squad.
“Having met with Sam, he clearly sees this as an experience that interests him and one that will be good for his overall education and development. Sam has already played games in League One this season and that experience will serve him well as he looks to find a way into our team and contribute to the squad between now and the end of the season.
“We all look forward to helping him settle into the club quickly and to working with him to make this experience a really positive one for him.
“Jack Iredale and Jubril Okedina have performed superbly in recent weeks, and we hope to see Greg Taylor and Lloyd Jones return in due course to compliment the defensive unit.”
Sherring will wear number 24 and won’t feature in tonight’s Papa John’s Trophy due to being cup-tied.
