GREG TAYLOR…Worldies, match winners, player of the year awards, Wembley success, promotion, FA Cup highs, adored by the Amber Army and now 250 appearances – MY LORD!
Joining the U's from Luton Town back in 2013, Taylor immediately enjoyed FA Trophy and Conference play-off success at Wembley during his first season at the Club, and went on to feature in both Emirates FA Cup fixtures against Manchester United in 2015.
Since then he’s continued to cement himself as a firm favourite with United supporters, and played a crucial role right across the pitch in recent seasons. His excellent versatility has seen him pull on the amber and black shirt in various roles in the defence and in central midfield, before settling at the heart of the United back four in the last 18 months as a stalwart at the Abbey.
In front of goal, he may have only netted five times for the U’s but he has certainly chosen his moments well. From the crucial header at Meadow Lane against Nott County two weeks ago, to the screamers against Bury F.C earlier this campaign and Crewe Alexandra in 2016, it’s fair to say the Amber Army will remember Greg’s goals for years to come.
His consistency and reliability throughout the course of the 2017/18 season for the U’s, saw Greg clean up every Player of the Year award going last year.
In March, Taylor racked up his double century of starts for the U's against Wycombe Wanderers, making him the second longest serving player at the Club behind Harrison Dunk, and his appearance on Saturday at St James Park saw him clock his 250th appearance in total.
