Cambridge United are delighted to confirm that Academy product Ben Worman has signed a three year professional contract, committing his future to the football club until 2021.

The forward put pen to paper on his 17th birthday, having been with the U's from the age of seven and developed through the Club's Academy age groups across the last decade.

Worman, a supporter of the football club having grown up in Waterbeach, was initially spotted playing for Waterbeach Colts ten years ago by the club's current Academy Manager Tom Pell.

In the last 12 months, Worman has led the line for the youth team, made his professional debut in the U's Checkatrade Trophy derby clash against Peterborough United and gained valuable experience having trained and featured for the first team during pre-season.

Academy Manager Tom Pell commented: "'This is fantastic news for Ben, his family and everyone connected with the Academy and the Football Club.

"A number of Ben's family are long-term supporters of the club and the fact he has worn the black and amber shirt for over ten years now, means this is a proud moment for him.

"Ben is one of a number of young players who are now beginning the transition from academy football into the first team. As seen with Harry Darling and Leon Davies most recently in the first team, Ben must continue to work hard and improve in order to gain as many opportunities as possible."

Cambridge United Head of Football, Ben Strang added: "Ben deserves the recognition of a professional contract through the consistency of his performances and his work ethic. His attitude and approach to the game is fantastic and he has a fearlessness that helps him adapt to different environments. He is well regarded by first team staff and as he progresses, they will be excited to continue the excellent work done by the Academy in aiding Ben’s development.”

Worman will now continue his development by gaining further experience of senior level football, with Evo-Stik Premier side St Neots Town on an initial one month loan deal.
