BARRY CORR WILL RETURN!

CORR SIGNS SIX MONTH DEAL WITH THE U'S

7 June 2018

Cambridge United are delighted to announce that Barry Corr will return to the U's for the 2018/19 season with the striker signing a new six month deal at the Football Club.

The 33-year old made a significant impact for the U's during the second half of the 2017/18 season, scoring four goals in five games at the conclusion of the campaign, featuring ten times in total and producing a notable boost from the bench under Joe Dunne.

Having now signed a new six month contract at the Club, Corr will continue to work closely with United's coaching and medical staff on the specific training programme which proved successful at the end of 2017/18.

Despite having his number of appearances in amber and black cut drastically by a series of injuries since first arriving at the Abbey Stadium in May 2015, Corr's impressive goal to game ratio in which he has found the net 18 times in 41 matches has made him a highly popular figure with the Amber Army.

Pleased to have committed to United once more, Corr commented: "I really am delighted. At the end of last season I didn't really want to play anywhere else, so I'm happy that it's all sorted.

"I think the back end of last season had an impact in the decision, in that both myself and the Club could see that I was still able to contribute. I am so grateful to Joe (Dunne) and the staff who managed me really well, enabling me train at a proper intensity and come on to have an impact in the games.

"Joe has made it very clear to every player in the squad what their role is, and when players have that structure it gives them a platform to perform. We've seen that with a number of players already and their creativity. It's great for a striker when you have that talent behind you to create chances.

"It's an exciting time, there is some great players in the team and I can't wait to get going into next season."

Meanwhile, Corr's new contract also includes the opportunity for the striker to continue his development as a coach with the Club. Having recently completed his UEFA A licence, he will be provided the opportunity to use his experience in helping to develop the forward players within the U's Academy age groups, through position specific coaching.

Corr added: "I'm really excited and grateful of the opportunity to coach at the Club.  Whilst I've completed my UEFA A licence which is a high qualification, I know I still have a lot to learn and this role gives me a fantastic platform to gain that experience.

Cambridge United Head of Football, Ben Strang commented: "Barry proved last season that he remains a huge threat at this level and is a natural goalscorer. The excellent work that Matt Walker and Mikey Burroughs have done with him has enabled Barry to integrate back in to the team and we are all aware that we mustn’t deviate from this method of working that has proved successful thus far. Barry’s a huge presence in the changing room, he’s well-liked and respected by everyone at the club; and has the highest levels of professionalism.

“Furthermore the opportunity for Barry to accumulate coaching hours working with our academy players is a fantastic fit, which all parties will benefit from. We’re delighted that Barry has signed as it maintains quality and consistency to the playing squad that finished the season so well.”

Barry has now signed on the dotted line to secure his place going into the 2018/19 season, you can too!
