Programme Preview:
With James Dunne and Liam O’Neil ruled out through injury and Max Clark suspended, Taylor was selected to protect United’s back four at Whaddon Road and did so impeccably producing a man of the match performance as the U’s ensured a clean sheet in Gloucestershire.
The full back admits he was slightly apprehensive approaching the fixture, but was thrilled to have done his bit for the U’s.
He said: “I certainly haven’t played in central midfield recently, although I did used to play there when I was younger, so I had a good idea of what the role involved and what was required in that position.
“I went in there at Cheltenham and applied myself as well as I could and fortunately it came off.
“I must admit I was a little bit nervous going into the game, because it was different and I was unfamiliar to the role that I am usually asked to play. But I took it in my stride and thankfully I had teammates all around me who were willing to work together, with the two boys behind me putting in a strong display and the lads either side playing well too.
“Overall it was just a really good team performance.”
