MATCH PREVIEW | PORTSMOUTH – AWAY

MATCH PREVIEW | PORTSMOUTH – AWAY

Cambridge United travel to Fratton Park this Saturday to face Portsmouth for a crucial Sky Bet League Two clash in their pursuit of the play-offs.

The 1-0 win over fellow play-off hopefuls Exeter City at the Cambs Glass Stadium on Easter Monday has moved United to within just one point of the top seven with just three games remaining.

Shaun Derry’s men have picked up three wins from their last four league outings and will be hoping to move well into contention as the end of the regular season draws near.

The U’s will again be without Barry Corr for the venture on the south coast, whilst Josh Coulson is the only other absentee.

As for the hosts, they finally enjoyed the taste of promotion following four seasons in Sky Bet League Two having secured a ticket into League One next season with victory over Notts County last weekend.

Paul Cooke’s men joined Doncaster Rovers and Plymouth Argyle in completing the division’s top three for 2016/17 and have been a strong force throughout the season.

Currently on a run of four wins from five and unbeaten since a 3-0 defeat to Stevenage in mid-March, Pompey’s form is as good as their League position suggests.

The U’s are yet to win against Portsmouth since returning to the Football League in 2014, but will hope to break that mould this weekend to continue their momentum.

A solitary goal from Conor Chaplin separated the teams at the Cambs Glass Stadium earlier this season.

A bumper crowd is expected at Fratton Park with the hosts celebrating their recent promotion, and just 80 tickets remaining for U’s fans in the away end. The Amber Army are reminded that the clash is all-ticket and will not be able to gain entry on the day without a match ticket.

Tickets are available online here.
