DEBUT DELIGHT FOR BRAD HALLIDAY
New U’s full back Brad Halliday says he’s “delighted” to have marked his opening appearance in amber and black with a clean sheet against Mansfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
The right-back produced a lively introduction to his days as a Cambridge United player, with the 21-year old impressing for Shaun Derry’s men in the goalless draw with the Stags at the One Call Stadium.
Halliday said: “As a back four and including the goalkeeper, the clean sheet is always important and I’m really pleased to have got one on my debut, as well as carrying on from the clean sheet against Shrewsbury Town.
“When we stay strong as a team at the back, it lays down a good platform for our attacking players to score and win us games going forward.
“We had a couple of good opportunities to score on Saturday and perhaps on another day we would have taken all three points, but as it was only my first game, I’m delighted we got a point on the board and didn’t concede.
He continued: “I have only been at the club for a number of days really, but all the players and coaching staff have made me feel really welcome.
“The move happened quite sudden, although the gaffer (Shaun Derry) has been trying to sign me for quite a while. But the opportunity to move to Cambridge United came up last week and I’m delighted to have got off to a solid start.”
Speaking about linking up with Piero Mingoia once more, Halliday added: “Coming into a new team where you already know somebody as well as I know Piero has helped massively.
“We played over 30 games together last season, so we have that partnership and he is a delight to work with because he’s great player going forward and defensively.
“I think you could see that bond pretty clearly against Mansfield.”
