FUTSAL REPORT: COVENTRY 2 CUFC 15

U's Futsal team bounce back to winning ways against Coventry

Cambridge United Futsal bounced back to winning ways with a 15-2 away triumph over Coventry.

Having been defeated for the first time this season by the University of Gloucestershire a week earlier, Luis Mendonca’s side restored the winning habit some fashion against their midlands opponents, with Luke Chadwick leading the charge with a seven goal haul.

In the home fixture, the U’s came away with the biggest win of the season with an impressive display of 20-2, so the United knew that Coventry would be looking for revenge.

The game started off at a slow pace, and with Coventry looking to play the long ball from the back, to try and get out of Cambridge's press, they found the back of the net through Cahill which shook the U’s into life and the score was back level within two minutes.

Shortly after, Burnus scored the second for Cambridge and this seemed to settle some initial nerves from the U’s.

For the rest of the half Cambridge continued to press and eventually Chadwick and Bouttell got on the score sheet which took both teams to the half time with the score at 4-1 to Cambridge.

In the second half a different display was shown from Cambridge who came out of the changing room ready to put on an impressive display. Through a lot of pressure United managed to frustrate Coventry who started to make mistakes at the back and were punished by the U’s who raced into a 9-1 lead.

Coventry managed to get a second goal, again through Cahill who toe poked in the corner of the U’s goal, and shortly after Cusumano replaced Lima in the yellow's goal to mark his come back to the National League since September due to injury.

After a number of good saves from Cusumano, the U’s looked to complete a heavy score line in an impressive final five minutes hit the net six times.

The final result was 15-2, which Mendonça will take great pride from. United now have a weekend off before they face Atletico Birmingham at home on 24th January.
