Cambridge United agree loan deal for Alie Sesay
Cambridge United have today secured a one month loan deal for Leicester City defender Alie Sesay.
The 21-year old who is capable of playing in both a central defensive role and at right back, has switched to the Abbey Stadium to offer further cover to Richard Money’s side at the back.
Beginning his youth career with Arsenal, the Sierra Leonean signed his first professional contract in 2010 with the Foxes where he went on to captain the youth team at the Kingpower Stadium.
He has since gone on to make his Football League debut whilst on loan at fellow East Anglian outfit Colchester United during the 2013/14 season, as well as receiving international recognition in October last year for Sierra Leone.
Sesay now arrives at the U’s looking to add further experience to his C.V., and Manager Richard Money feels the youngster will be a worthy addition to his squad over the coming weeks.
He said: “We have seen a lot of him in the last few years, and although we couldn’t bring him in whilst we were in the conference but we did think about approaching him a couple of times last season.
“He went to Colchester while Joe [Dunne, Assistant Manager] was there and that helps. The biggest thing is that he grew up for three years playing with George Taft at Leicester, so there is a familiarity between the two of them.
“I’m sure he’ll come in and do well. He is a different type of defender in the central areas to what we have, because he is very quick. Although he is not the biggest, he has good strength and is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet.
“We have made it clear to him that we know he is capable at playing right back but we see him as central defender and I hope his time here will give him a big lift.”
