Pre-Match Interview: Shaun Derry
Shaun Derry is looking for the U’s to produce the same level of performance this Saturday against Notts County at the Abbey Stadium, that earned them an important three points at Morecambe earlier this week.
United produced an energetic display on their way to a 4-2 victory over the Shrimps on Tuesday evening at the Globe Arena, and have the opportunity to round off a busy week of fixtures with another Sky Bet League Two clash against Notts County.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Derry commented: “It was long trip back from Morecambe on Tuesday night but a pleasant one because we were delighted with the win and the way that we had played. We had Wednesday off to recuperate from the journey and since then we have been back on the training field getting some messages back into the players heading into Saturday.
“We have been a football club that has been too inconsistent this season and I want us to get used to that winning feeling. It’s important we take advantage of every opportunity to get a win and it’s a case of looking forward and being encouraged by Tuesday night’s game.
“Backing up our wins with further wins is an important factor that we need to produce in order to progress up the League table. We have to ensure we don’t dip into a good performance and then dip back out again.
“My message to the group has been ‘can we produce a level of performance again that will allow us to get the points?’ and that is the task going forward.”
Two weeks into his new role at the helm, Derry is pleased with the signs of progression he’s seen since his arrival and hopes the U’s can continue to be positive moving forward.
“I’m delighted with what I have seen in the last two weeks and if there is a buzz around the place then that is brilliant because I’m certainly enjoying it.
“I get judged on results and of course results also bring a level of excitement. We are forward thinking and we’re trying to create that vision, because I think we could be something really good.”
