U's well beaten
Three goals in 12 minutes either side of half-time gave York City a comfortable win over Cambridge United.
Having dominated the first half, United fell behind two minutes before the break, Wes Fletcher netting with a sharp finish from 18 yards.
A fluke goal from Michael Coulson made it 2-0 after the restart, his cross floating in at the back post, before Jake Hyde scored from close range in the 55th minute to wrap up the points.
Richard Money had the rare luxury of naming an unchanged side, sticking with the line-up that defeated Morecambe 2-0 on Saturday.
And for the most part United dominated the first period, with Donaldson and Mendez-Laing stretching play on the flanks and Harrold and Slew linking up well in attack.
Donaldson was inches away from claiming a second goal in successive matches when he slid in but couldn’t quite get a touch to Greg Taylor’s low centre as it flashed across the six-yard box.
Slew twice came close to opening the scoring, first wriggling free with a clever turn near the left touchline, but seeing his angled shot deflected behind for a corner.
Then good work from Donaldson slipped the former Sheffield United striker in down the channel, but he slipped as he was about to pull the trigger, putting his shot too close to visiting keeper Olejnik, who was able to parry.
York were mainly restricted to pot-shots from distance, but they enjoyed a good spell just before half-time which culminated in Fletcher’s goal, which saw him take a good first touch before smashing a shot past Dunn from 18 yards.
And the visitors took full control after the break, with Coulson receiving the ball in a central position, and being allowed to run across the box and clip in a cross that somehow found the far corner.
Slew could have pulled one back when he skied the ball over the bar from Mendez-Laing’s low centre, but it was York who were celebrating again moments later as Fletcher was allowed time and space to control the ball in the box and skim in a cross that Hyde touched home.
