United capture exciting youngster Danny Carr
Cambridge United have signed young striker Danny Carr on a two-year contract.
Yet to reach his full potential in the professional game, the U’s are hopeful Carr’s blistering pace and notable strength give him every opportunity of establishing himself as a deadly marksmen in the Football League at the Abbey Stadium.
A prolific goal scorer in the lower leagues for Dulwich Hamlet in the 2012/13 season, where he registered 25 goals in 37 appearances, led to high profile clubs Liverpool and Chelsea to track the forward’s progress.
West Yorkshire side Huddersfield Town offered Carr his first professional contract, having also shown huge potential during his time in the Reading academy and achieved a career debut with Eastbourne Borough.
Despite limited first team opportunities with the Terriers, Danny continued to score goals with the Under 21 development side and gained valuable experience via three short term loan spells in Sky Bet League Two.
Cambridge United boss Richard Money discloses his pleasure at being able to land the exciting young forward, he said: "We are delighted to be able to bring Daniel to the club at this exciting time. He is a player of enormous as yet unfulfilled potential, he is very quick and can play right across the front line.
“Daniel's determination to sign for us when he had a number of other opportunities has been refreshing and underlines the ambition we are showing in our recruitment this summer.
“As well as being committed towards developing players from our own academy, Daniel’s signing also shows our determination to continue to bring young players with his potential to the club."
Make sure you check out Danny in action for the first time at the Abbey Stadium against Norwich City on Friday 17th July.
Supporters can save money for both the clash with the Canaries and Ipswich Town on Tuesday 21st July by purchasing the East Anglian Double Header ticket. Meanwhile, tickets for the U’s other pre-season tussles with Coventry City and away to Peterborough United are also available online now.
