Simpson levels late for the U's
A late goal from Robbie Simpson secures a 1-1 draw for the U’s against Bromley FC at Hayes Lane.
Despite the U’s dominating possession for large parts of the first half and the opening 30 minutes of the second period, the fixture largely lacked any goal mouth action from either side.
The first real foray of note came nine minutes from time when United defender Josh Coulson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area resulting in a debatable penalty for the Ravens. Alex Wall had no issues from 12 yards slotting home to break the deadlock.
The U’s responded immediately with midfielder Conor Newton firing a rasping volley towards the Bromley goal, which would have levelled the scores had the home side’s goalkeeper not produced a fine save.
However Richard Money’s men continued to press for an equaliser and were rewarded moments before the final whistle, when Harrison Dunk delivered an exquisite cross into the danger zone which Simpson was on hand to nod home, completing a 1-1 score line.
The Amber Army have one final chance to watch the U’s in action at the Abbey Stadium ahead of the start of the new Football League season, with Coventry City set to visit the city on Tuesday evening, kicking off at 7.45pm.
Season ticket holders are able to attend the game for free, with tickets available for £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £1 juniors. Click here to buy.
