Home Park – 12/12/15 - Kick Off 3:00pm
Cambridge United make the longest away journey of the season on Saturday afternoon (Kick Off 3:00pm), taking on high flyers Plymouth Argyle at Home Park in Sky Bet League Two.
The U’s head to Devon in fine form in the League, having won their previous two games against Notts County and Morecambe, and Shaun Derry’s side will be looking for another important result to continue building momentum as a busy schedule of fixtures over the Christmas period awaits them.
The United boss will only be without Keith Keane and Elliot Omozusi when selecting the players to make up his match day squad tomorrow afternoon, with the pair continuing their rehabilitation from injury.
Meanwhile, Plymouth currently sit in second position in the League table but will be looking for their first win in four games, with their last three points coming against York City at Bootham Crescent back in mid-November.
With 20 goals between them so far this season, Argyle’s front three of Graham Carey, Jake Jervis and Reuben Reid have made a significant contribution to Plymouth’s top four start to the campaign.
Home advantage proved vital last season between the sides, with Cambridge United securing their first win back in the Football League over the Pilgrims on the opening day of the 2014/15 season, before Plymouth avenged that defeat with a 2-0 victory at Home Park in February. The U’s hold the advantage on the overall head-to-head record, winning nine of the 22 fixtures between the two sides to Argyle’s seven.
However, Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry expects a tricky encounter this weekend, he said: “Plymouth have got good players, fantastic support and they have been in a rich vein of form this season, so you can certainly expect a good atmosphere at the game.
“The manager (Derek Adams) has stamped down his own thoughts on how he wants them to play, and they have delivered that quickly in a positive manner.
“They are capable of scoring goals and do not concede that many which makes them a good team, but I want it to be about us. I don’t want to go down there to make up the numbers; we have to take the game to Plymouth.”
