PRE-MATCH INTERVIEW: SHAUN DERRY
Shaun Derry discusses details of the U’s training schedule this week as Cambridge United prepare to take on table-toppers Plymouth Argyle for the longest away trip of the season.
“We will be travelling early this morning so that we can train at Bristol City, and I offer a huge thank you to the manager down there for allowing us to do so,” said Derry.
“We have a similar training schedule to what we had when we travelled to Morecambe two weeks’ ago. I like doing that, because on the longer journeys it is good to split it up where we can avoid spending seven hours on the coach.
“Due to the journey we have had to kind of assess the week and measure the workload we can put into the player’s bodies accordingly, bearing in mind that we will be sat on the bus for a long time.
“It’s obviously a long trip for our supporters to make as well, and whoever does make the journey then I take my hat off to them. We’ll be looking to give them something to cheer about because we are fully prepared.”
The U’s Boss feels the trip to Home Park on Saturday (kick off 3:00pm) marks a good opportunity for his side to lay down their intentions for the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign, and is looking for United to take the game to their opponents once more.
“Plymouth will certainly be another difficult opponent, and in each game we have played since I’ve come in, it’s been quite a formidable run of fixtures.
“I want us to be brave on the field again and take the game to the opposition, as I have in all our games so far. Although it was a good performance last weekend against Doncaster, we want to respond to a disappointing result.
“This weekend’s game is a good opportunity for us to do that, because we go into it on the back of two League wins, so psychologically we are in good form.”
