U's forge link with Performance Pathway

4 December 2023

Cambridge United Academy and Performance Pathway are delighted to announce a new partnership as a Cambridge United partner club...

Performance Pathway includes a coaching programme for boys and girls from U6-U16 at its development centre in Bury St Edmunds, in addition to a group of local Matchday Puma FC league teams from ages U6-U10, led by highly qualified UEFA A/B and FA licensed coaches.

Notable coaches include ex-professional and company director Alan Lee, along with former professionals Ed Upson and Tommy Smith.

Director Rick Boreham, a current talent ID officer for Cambridge United, has helped identify some of the Club’s current Academy players, in addition to First Team player, Jack Lankester, from when he was a youngster.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for young players in our local area,” Boreham said. “The partnership allows them to showcase their talent in front of experienced staff, receive excellent coaching and experience games against Cambridge United at all levels of their pathway programs.

“Fellow director Alan Lee has been key to sourcing the use of Culford School in Bury St Edmunds for the use of their excellent facilities, which helps further enhance the players learning experience, and we are extremely grateful to him and the school.”

Furthermore, Cambridge United staff - as part of the relationship - will be contributing to Performance Pathway by leading CPD events, providing a coaching framework and supporting player recruitment with promotion of open trials.

Director Jason Day added, “I would like to acknowledge the collaborative effort with Jake Hammond and thank Cambridge United for the opportunity.

“This partnership will enhance our program support the local community and increase Cambridge United's presence in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding areas, offering more opportunities to young players from the area.”

Cambridge United Academy Talent ID Officer, Jake Hammond said, "We are delighted to work with Performance Pathway we feel this will give us good scope in Bury St Edmunds from a recruitment perspective.

"We know the great work that Rick, Jason and everyone Performance Pathway do with the kids, so it makes a great deal of sense to work together."
