Adam May says he’s more than happy with his form for the U’s in recent weeks, but remains hungry to make goals an added component of his game.

The 22-year old has been a solid performer in central midfield for Mark Bonner, and played in every fixture of the U’s unbeaten streak through January in Sky Bet League Two.

May said: “The aim when I first joined was to play as many games as I could. I’ve been lucky enough to have been in the team and the results are going our way so I’m really enjoying it. When you play a lot of games consecutively you grow in confidence, you learn every game and can build on that. That’s what I feel I’ve done.

“When you’re getting the results, the feeling in any team is always good. It’s great to see us at the top of the table but we’ve just got to keep it going.

He continued: “It’s a great group, with a perfect balance. We all seem to naturally work really well together. We’ve seen that from the diamond formation we’ve been playing more regularly recently. There is some really experienced heads in the dressing room, and they always help you along the way.

May was the first name on the scoresheet in 2021 with his effort against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park last month, but the midfielder is eager to add more to his tally of two before the end of the campaign.

“I would like to be adding a few more goals to my game at the moment if I was being honest. It’s fair to say I definitely get a few chances in games to contribute when it comes to the goalscoring, so that’s definitely an area I’d like to improve on.

“Still it’s been nice so far this season, to pop in with a goal now and then. But I want more before the end of the season.”

And looking ahead to the run in, May said: “It’s nice to see us up there at the moment, but there’s a long way to go and the League is very tight. With all the games in hand that teams have got, we have just got to do what we have been and focussing on getting the best from ourselves to see where we end up.”
